Concept Album
From across the pond in the land of Iceland, and the mind of composer Ívar Páll Jónsson, comes this adventurous new release in July this summer.

Produced by Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson, the album takes you on an 18 song sonic journey through the heart and soul of Elbowville, where a story of love and revolution unfolds, as three brothers live in perfect harmony until their story turns to conflict, shaking Elbowville to its core.
The music on the album was performed by The Revolutionary Cellular Orchestra (RCO), and features an array of guest vocalists, including Liam McCormick (The Family Crest), Hjalti Þorkelsson (Múgsefjun), Sigríður Thorlacius (Hjaltalín), Valdimar Guðmundsson (Valdimar), Arnar Guðjónsson (Leaves), Lára Rúnarsdóttir, Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson, Soffía Björg (Orfia) and Ásdís Rósa Þórðardóttir.

The record weaves an emotive storyline with the energy of a soaring rock ensemble. From dark textural moments to full out rock anthems the musical influences run deep from Radiohead and Wilco to Queen and beyond.
The record coincides with the launch of a theatre production of the same name to premiere in NYC’s Greenwich Village in August 2014.

“Revolution is just grand”

These words are taken from Jack Rabid’s review of the album, to be published in the print edition of The Big Takeover. Another quote from the review: “The deep production and alternation between elegiac grace, alternative pop current, and Bacharach hints makes this 18-song suite soar”.

In a review of the two songs that are already on SoundCloud, Icytopics.com writes: “All We Need Is Confidence is the standout, with smooth piano parts, clouds of strings and angelic backing vocals. It’s soaring bittersweetness is reminiscent of The Flaming Lips masterpiece Do You Realize??”

The Revolution Is Coming To New York

The album, Revolution in the Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter, is to be released in July 2014. The album release concert will be held in New York City. Artists that participated in the recording of the album will travel across the pond from Iceland, among them Ívar Páll Jónsson, composer and Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson, music producer. In addition, Liam McCormick will be joining them from San Fransisco, the only non-Icelander to sing on the album. The original intention was to have only Icelandic voices on the album. The plan changed for good reason when Ívar Páll Jónsson heard McCormick’s The Family Crest for the first time. The label releasing the album is Mother West, based in New York.

Revolution in the Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter will open as a theatre production in New York City’s West Village in August 2014.
Songs, lyrics and script are written by Ívar Páll Jónsson and tell the epic story of love and revolution in a small community, Elbowville, within Ragnar Agnarsson’s body. The audience will have the privilege of sitting through a show within an elbow and watch as this dramatic story unfolds.
The play is directed by Bergur Þór Ingólfsson who has assembled a team of great artists. Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson, producer of the album, is the musical director/supervisor, embracing the spirit and soundscape of the concept album.
